Wilson Asset Management founder and chair, Geoff Wilson, has announced in a letter to shareholders the upcoming retirement of chief investment officer, Chris Stott.

Stott, who joined Wilson Asset Management (WAM) in 2006, is a director of WAM Capital and WAM Microcap and also serves as the portfolio manager responsible for WAM Capital, WAM Research, WAM Active and WAM Microcap.

Before joining WAM, Stott worked in various research roles specialising in Australian equities at Challenger Financial Services Group.

Commenting on Stott's retirement, Wilson said: "Chris has decided to spend more time with his young family and will continue to work with us as a WAM Capital and WAM Microcap director."

He added: "I have had the pleasure of working closely with Chris for 12 years. I have particularly enjoyed his passion for markets and focus on delivering returns for shareholders ... I am looking forward to continuing to work with Chris at board level and everyone at WAM wishes him well in his future endeavours."

Wilson will assume the role of CIO on Stott's retirement.
