Date: July 2021

Warren Bird has retired as executive director of the treasury and investments division of the Uniting Church, Uniting Financial Services. During his more than six years with the organisation, Bird oversaw the launch of an ethically-managed multi-asset fund and issued the first sustainable bond by a not-for-profit in Australia.

Commenting on his departure, the Uniting Church general secretary Jane Fry said, "Warren Bird has had a long and distinguished career in public service and in the financial markets, including the last 6 and a half years as the Executive Director of the Synod's Treasury and Investment Services.

"During his time with the Uniting Church, Warren has passionately combined his Christian faith and professional expertise to enhance the investment services that the Synod can offer to the Church and to generate a healthy surplus that provides financial support for the Synod's broader activities. He has also contributed articles to our Insights magazine on money and faith that have been well received across the Synod. We thank him for his contribution on many fronts."

Bird was previously the co-head of global fixed interest and credit with Colonial First State Global Asset Management and held senior portfolio management and research roles with SBC Funds Management, Merrill Lynch Australia, and Lloyds Bank NZA. He started his career as a research officer in the Australian Treasury, doing public finance statistics with the ABS.

While he's retiring from full-time work, Bird will continue in his role on the GESB investment committee.
