HOSTPLUS SUPERANNUATION FUND
Date: July 2021
Position: Employer Director

Mark Valie has stepped down from the board of Hostplus where he has been an employer director for the industry superannuation fund for several years.

In a statement announcing several board changes, the fund indicated the changes align with several of their directors reaching their maximum-permitted board tenure under the fund's governance framework.

Vaile, a former Deputy Prime Minister for the National Party in the Howard Government, served in elected office from 1993-2008. during that time he held leadership roles including Minister for Trade and Investment as well as Transportation and Regional Development. He was leader of the National Party of Australia from 2005-2007.

Last month, Vaile was announced as the new Chancellor at Newcastle University. The appointment was met with controversy over Vaile's chairmanship of Whitehaven Coal, which has several mines in Northwest NSW.

Vaile continues to hold several other directorships, including with Servcorp and Singapore-listed Stamford Land Corporation and China-based 123 Childcare.
