A Former partner at Research Affiliates and portfolio manager at Sunsuper has returned to UBS AG after a 20-year break.

Michael Aked has re-joined the UBS-owned Credit Suisse Wealth Management's discretionary portfolio management team as a senior investment manager.

Aked will play a critical role in the team, and take responsibility for top-down risk allocation, portfolio design and the optimisation of client portfolios.

In 2005, he served as head of asset allocation for UBS Asset Management, where he spent ten years driving performance across multi-asset class portfolios.

Aked brings over 25 years of experience managing third-party and in-house multi-asset and multi-manager portfolios, spanning both the public and private markets.

He arrives from Scientific Beta, where he was a senior investment strategist tasked with engaging with asset owners on ESG and factor-based related strategies.

There just 19 months, he did a brief stint at Monash University as a senior advisor after leading research and strategy for Australia at Research Affiliates.

At the Newport Beach-based investment firm, he served as research head.

Before that, he served as managing director at the University of Virginia Investment Management Company, where he worked on portfolio and risk management.

Credit Suisse local head of discretionary portfolio management, Jasmin Argyro said Aked's appointment is fundamental in aligning wealth and ESG goals for clients.

"He brings to both the Australian and wider Credit Suisse Wealth Management teams extensive international experience, having held positions in Sydney, Tokyo, Chicago, California, London and Zurich,"

"This will help us ensure that we continue to effectively bring together UBS and Credit Suisse's global capabilities to meet local client needs."

The recruit will report to Argyrou.
