SuperConcepts has announced that Kurt Groeneveld will step down as chief technology officer, effective 2 January 2019, and that current executive manager of software development, Brad Ackermann, will step up as his successor.

In a statement, the firm said that Ackermann had been "mentored by Groeneveld for almost 15 years since the pair began work together in 2003, including collaborating on the prototype for SMSF accounting software, SuperMate."

Groeneveld developed SuperMate at his firm, SuperCorp, which was acquired by AMP in 2015 as part of AMP's SMSF business. In January 2016, AMP SMSF was rebranded to SuperConcepts.

In acknowledging Groeneveld's contribution to the SMSF sector, Ackermann said: "Kurt has been a pioneer and driving force in SMSF software and administration and it's been a privilege to work alongside someone who was at ground zero of developing SMSF solutions."

In turn, Groeneveld said: "It's been a pleasure to watch Brad grow and to see SuperConcepts thrive, and now is the time for me to pass the torch and explore other ideas I have both locally and overseas for the next stage of my life."

Note: Groeneveld confirmed in July that he would not be renewing his three-year contract.
