Suncorp CFO to act in top job

Suncorp has announced that Steve Johnston has been appointed acting chief executive officer following the departure of Michael Cameron.

Johnston joined Suncorp in 2006 and has held various executive roles, most recently as group chief financial officer and previously as deputy CFO and EGM investor relations and corporate affairs.

Suncorp chair Christine McLoughlin said that Johnston "has a deep understanding of Suncorp's core insurance and banking businesses and is best placed to lead Suncorp and build on the group's multi-channel capability."

Johnston added: "I recognise the importance of this role, especially during this challenging time for the financial services industry. I am truly passionate about what we do and confident in our future."

Deputy chief financial officer Jeremy Robson has been appointed acting group CFO while the Suncorp board completes the succession process.
