Steven Harker joins the board of Westpac

Westpac has announced the appointment of Steven Harker to its board as an independent non-executive director, effective 1 March 2019.

Harker was previously managing director and chief executive officer of Morgan Stanley Australia from 1998 to 2016 and then vice chair until February 2019.

He is currently a director of The Banking and Finance Oath, The Hunger Project Australia and ASX Refinitiv Charity Foundation.

He will be joined on the Westpac board by fellow new independent director, Margie Seale.

Commenting on both appointees, Westpac chair, Lindsay Maxsted, said: "We are delighted to welcome such high quality directors in Margie and Steve, who will add significant skills and experience to the board."

Harker and Seale will also sit on the board's risk and compliance committee.
