Equip has confirmed to Industry Moves that, following changes to its investment management strategy, portfolio manager James Birrell has departed the $14 billion fund, effective April 2018.

Birrell, who first joined Equip in December 2008, was responsible for managing the fund's Australian equity portfolio and several of the fund's unlisted infrastructure and property assets. Previously, he held roles with Deutsche Bank, MinterEllison and UBS Investment Bank.

Equip has also confirmed the departure of portfolio manager, Andrew Fong.

Commenting on the changes, a spokesperson for Equip told Industry Moves: "As part of the new investment strategy, the fund will no longer manage their assets internally for the foreseeable future."

Previously, a third of Equip's funds were managed in-house.
