The Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA) has announced the appointment of Deanne Stewart, incoming chief executive officer of First State Super, as a public sector representative on the ASFA board.

Stewart has more than 20 years' experience in financial services in superannuation and insurance sectors in Australia and internationally. Prior to First State Super she was CEO of MetLife Australia and has previously held senior roles within BT Financial Group, Merrill Lynch Investment Management in New York, and McKinsey and Company in London.

Stewart and fellow new ASFA board appointee, John McMurtrie, will fill the vacancies left by outgoing First State Super CEO, Michael Dwyer, and former Link Group CEO, Suzanne Holden.

ASFA chair Dr Michael Easson said that he is "looking forward to Deanne and John joining the board and working with ASFA towards its mission to improve the superannuation system for all Australians so they can enjoy a comfortable retirement."
