New Chief Economist, Australia named at UBS Investment Bank

UBS Investment Bank has announced the appointment of George Tharenou as chief economist, Australia, effective June 2017.

Tharenou joined UBS Investment Bank in 2006 and most recently held the role of senior economist. Prior to joining the bank, he worked in the Reserve Bank of Australia and Queensland Treasury.

In his new role he will replace outgoing chief economist, Australia, Scott Haslem, who is set to step down in August after 20 years with the bank.

Commenting on Tharenou appointment, a spokesperson said: "George has been a key contributor to the Australian Economics franchise over the past 11 years and is well placed to carry on the team's success."

UBS Investment Bank has also announced it is looking to appoint an economist to work alongside Tharenou.
