UniSuper has announced the appointment of Ian Martin as its new chair, effective 1 July 2017.

Martin replaces long-standing board member and chair, Chris Cuffe, who will step down on 30 June 2017 at the completion of his term.

Martin joined the UniSuper board as an independent director in April 2013. He was formerly CEO of BT Financial Group and global head of investment management of Bankers Trust Corporation, and is currently chair of Argo Investments, Argo Global Listed Infrastructure, and vice chair, Asia Pacific of Berkshire Capital. He is also chair of the Wayside Chapel Foundation.

Commenting on his new role, Martin said: "I am very much looking forward to the opportunity to Chair the UniSuper Board and am honoured to be appointed to the role. I wish Chris continued success and extend my appreciation on behalf of the Board for his support and guidance during his term."

Cuffe added: "I know that under Ian's leadership, the fund will continue to deliver strong performance, excellent service and ultimately better retirement outcomes for its members."
