National Australia Bank (NAB) has announced the resignation of chief operating officer, Antony Cahill, effective 14 September 2018.

Cahill, who has spent the past eight years with NAB, is returning to the UK to take up the role of managing director, European regions for Visa.

Cahill first joined NAB as executive general manager, growth partnerships, and held several other senior roles before his August 2014 promotion to the bank's executive leadership team as group executive, product & markets. He was appointed as COO in August 2016.

Commenting on his service, NAB CEO, Andrew Thorburn, said: "[Antony] has made a significant contribution to the bank, and his leadership in product management, customer journeys and with NAB Labs and NAB Ventures are worthy of special mention."

Cahill added that he was proud to have been part of the NAB team and that "NAB is a stronger, more customer-focused bank as a result of the work that has been done in recent years."

NAB's executive general manager, deposits & transaction services, Rachel Slade, has been appointed acting group executive, customer products and services, with Thorburn saying he was "delighted to ask Rachel to take on this role" while he "consider[s] next steps."
