NAB's executive GM for strategy and development, Nathan Goonan, has been appointed as the group executive for strategy and innovation following a reorganisation.

In his new role, Goonan will be responsible for the execution of the bank's strategy, innovation, and transformation agenda. Additionally, he will look after mergers and acquisition activity.

Goonan rejoined NAB in 2013 as EGM, looking after corporate strategy and mergers.

He has experience with Goldman Sachs in M7A and was the CEO of an agricultural investment fund.

Goonan's career began with NAB in 2004, and he's held several roles with the organisation including acting as NAB's corporate affairs head.

Rachel Slade also had a new role announced, as group executive for personal banking.

"Rachel and Nathan are talented leaders with deep experience in banking and will play critical roles in delivering for our customers and our bank," NAB CEO Ross McEwan said.

"Nathan joins the Executive Leadership Team having led the development of NAB's long-term strategy announced today. He too is a passionate advocate for customers and has played a key role in NAB's major strategic moves in recent years including the divestment of NAB's UK business."
