Victorian Funds Management Corporation (VFMC) has announced the appointment of Russell Clarke as chief investment officer, effective 15 May 2017.

Clarke is currently the global CIO (Mainstream Assets) and CIO (Pacific) for Mercer. In this role, he has responsibility for investing $185b across diversified asset classes for over 200 funds. He is also chair of Mercer's Global Strategic Research Committee. Prior to joining Mercer, Clarke has held investment roles with both UniSuper and County Investment Management.

VFMC has also announced the appointment of Sally Collins as chief operating officer, effective 15 May 2017.

Commenting on the appointments, chief executive officer, Lisa Gray, said: "One of VFMC's great strengths is the depth and breadth of its team. Our clients have been delighted with the continued strong investment returns and Russell and Sally will only add to that momentum."

Clarke will replace former CIO, Justin Pascoe, who departed in December 2016. Following Pascoe's departure, deputy CIO, Andrew Elliott, stepped into the position on an interim basis. Elliot will continue to act in the role until Clarke joins in May 2017.
