Industry super fund Media Super has appointed former NSW Deputy Premier Carmel Tebbutt as an independent director.
Commenting on the appointment, Media Super chair Gerard Noonan said: "In government, Ms. Tebbutt managed challenging and complex portfolios. She has strong financial and risk management skills, and has been responsible for large portfolios with significant budgets."
He added: "Media Super has previously had several independent directors, so the addition of an independent director to the board will be an easy transition."
During her 17-year parliamentary career, Tebbutt served as the Minister for Health, Minister for Climate Change and the Environment, Minister for Commerce, Minister for Education and Training, Minister for Community Services, Aging & Disability Services and Minister for Juvenile Justice.
Commenting on her new role with Media Super, Tebbutt said: "Superannuation plays a critical role in providing financial security for people in their retirement. I am passionate about the industry superannuation 'all profits to members' model where board decisions are guided solely by member's interests."
Tebbutt is also a director of The Lysicrates Foundation, which promotes the performing and visual arts.
