Macquarie appoints Independent Director

Macquarie Group has announced the appointment of Jillian Broadbent as an independent director on the Macquarie Group and Macquarie Bank boards, effective 4 November 2018.

Broadbent is chair of Swiss Re Life and Health Australia, chancellor of the University of Wollongong, and serves as a director on the boards of Woolworths Limited, the National Portrait Gallery of Australia and the Sydney Dance Company.

Previously, she spent 22 years at Bankers Trust Australia, initially as the firm's economic strategist and then as executive director responsible for risk management of foreign exchange, interest rates and commodities. She was also a member of the Reserve Bank of Australia board, and served as chair of the board of Clean Energy Finance Corporation, as well as a director of ASX Limited, SBS, Coca-Cola Amatil, Woodside Petroleum, Qantas and Westfield Management.

Commenting on her appointment, Macquarie Group and Macquarie Bank chair, Peter Warne, said that the boards will "benefit greatly" from her "extensive investment banking industry knowledge and markets expertise, including her deep knowledge of risk management and regulation in these areas."

Broadbent will also join the boards' risk and nominating committees.
