legalsuper has announced the appointment of Kirsten Mander as the independent chair of its board, effective immediately.

She replaces former chair, David Miles, who has retired from the $3.5 billion fund after 12 years in the role.

Mander has 16 years' experience as a non-executive director and more than 30 years' experience as a legal practitioner in both private and corporate practice. Previously, she was general counsel of Australian Unity and a director of RT Health Insurance.

She currently serves as chair of the Victorian Assisted Reproductive Treatment Authority and the International Women's Development Agency and as a board member of Swinburne University and Peninsula Health.

Commenting on her appointment, Miles said: "I retire confident in Kirsten's capacity to lead our fund, and with the support of her fellow directors and legalsuper's executive team, to oversee continuing strong performance for the benefit of all members."

Mander added: "legalsuper is an important component of the legal community landscape and as the fund's most recent annual report testifies, is committed to strong financial performance, as well as to supporting members with information, advice and expertise which enhances their overall superannuation outcomes and experience."
