JCP Investment Partners has announced the appointment of Mark O'Brien as the firm's new executive chair, effective 1 October 2018.

According to the firm, O'Brien will perform a dual governance and management role, "providing leadership, oversight and support to the senior management team and broader business strategy."

O'Brien has 35 years' experience as an institutional fund manager, most recently as general manager of investments at NSW Treasury Corp (TCorp), and previously in the same role at SAS Trustee Corporation (NSW State Super).

He also spent 19 years at AMP Capital Investors, where he held a variety of roles, including chief investment officer, and spent a further 10 years with ANZ Funds Management.

At JCP, O'Brien will succeed Richard Balderstone, who has filled the role of chair on an interim basis since the retirement of former chair Prof. Bob Officer last year. Balderstone will continue as a non-executive director.

From 1 October 2018, the JCP board will comprise six directors: Mark O'Brien (executive chair), Richard Balderstone (non-executive director), Chris Condon (non-executive director), Michael Fitzsimmons (executive director / senior portfolio manager, who will step down as managing director this week), Steven Semczyszyn (executive director / chief investment officer), and Wesley Campbell (executive director / head of business development).
