IAG has announced to the ASX the departure of group general counsel and company secretary, Chris Bertuch, effective September 2018.

Commenting on Bertuch's departure, IAG managing director and CEO, Peter Harmer, said: "Chris has been a key member of my leadership team and has led a number of landmark transactions which have transformed IAG, cementing our position as Australia and New Zealand's leading insurer.

"These included the acquisition of Westfarmers' insurance underwriting business in 2014, the Berkshire Hathaway strategic relationship in 2015 and most recently the agreed sale of IAG's operations in Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia in June this year."

Bertuch, who has overseen the company's preparation for the Royal Commission into Banking and Financial Services, has been on extended leave recently, with Rebecca Farrell taking over as acting group general counsel. Farrell will continue in the role while an internal and external search takes place for Bertuch's replacement.
