HESTA Chair to step down

Board Move

HESTA has announced that Angla Emslie will be stepping down as independent chair of the $46 billion fund at the end of her term on 31 December 2018.

Emslie, who has been a director of HESTA for over 20 years and chair since 2010, will be succeeded by the Hon Nicola Roxon.

In acknowledging Emslie's contribution, HESTA CEO, Debby Blakey, said: “A true pioneer in responsible investment, Angela has been an inspiring leader and influential advocate for members and the industry fund sector. Angela’s also been an incredible support and mentor to so many in the industry, including me, for which I am enormously grateful.”

She added: “Angela leaves with HESTA enjoying the highest rating from all independent superannuation ratings agencies and with the Fund recognised as a global leader in responsible investment. It’s an outstanding legacy, which has helped set the fund up for long-term success in the years ahead."

Emslie said that she felt "deeply privileged to have served" the fund's members and that she knows Roxon "will make an outstanding contribution to the HESTA Board."

Emslie currently serves on the boards of UN-backed Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), Frontier Advisors and Suicide Prevention Australia. Previously, she served as a director of AIST from 2002 to 2016, including as deputy president from 2009 to 2014 and president from 2014 to 2016.
