Grant Samuel Fund Management (GSFM) has announced that chief executive officer (CEO), Andrew McKinnon, will be moving into the role of executive chair of the firm, effective 1 July 2017.

Replacing McKinnon as CEO is director and head of distribution, Damien McIntyre. McKinnon and McIntyre co-founded GSFM in 2007, and McKinnon has been CEO since its inception.

Prior to co-founding GSFM, McKinnon spent 11 years at Credit Suisse Asset Management Australia as CEO. During this time his role included distribution and client development, primarily with institutional clients, and he helped grow the business from $2 billion to $20 billion. He also has 16 years' investment management experience from managing domestic equities at Wardley Investment Management (HSBC) and domestic and UK equities at County NatWest Investment Management.

McKinnon said the GSFM restructure is part of a long-term strategic plan for the business.

"As executive chair I remain committed to the business in a day-to-day capacity. My focus on GSFM's institutional relationships and business strategy will continue. This includes continuing to actively seek and evaluate potential fund manager partners for GSFM."

McKinnon replaces outgoing non-executive chair, Doug Bartlett, who will remain as a director on the board.
