Grant Thornton appoints new Partner to Sydney team

Grant Thornton Australia has announced the appointment of Himashini Weeraratne as a tax partner, effective 1 February 2018.

According to the firm, in this Sydney-based role, Weeraratne will be responsible for building "the firm's specialist tax expertise with a focus on asset management, superannuation and Fintech." Her role will encompass boutique funds and small to mid-size high growth financial organisations.

Weeraratne has over 10 years' experience providing tax advisory and compliance services to financial service providers, fund managers, managed funds, superannuation funds and their advisors.

She joins from Deloitte, where she worked with financial services providers and superannuation funds clients, such as Blackrock Asset Management, First State Super, NSW Treasury and NAB Wealth.

Commenting on her appointment, lead partner of Grant Thornton's Financial Services industry group, Madeleine Mattera, said: "Himashini's strong expertise in the Financial Services industry will be a great addition to our team and benefit to our clients. We are excited about expanding our expertise in this important area."

This appointment follows the recent return of partner, Chris Watson, to the financial advisory team in Brisbane and the appointment of Branko Panich to the technology advisory team of Grant Thornton Consulting.
