FUTURE FUND MANAGEMENT AGENCY
Date: December 2020
Position: Chief Investment Officer

Following a global search, Future Fund has confirmed that acting chief investment officer Sue Brake will take over the role permanently.

Brake became acting CIO in July of this year following the promotion of her predecessor, Raphael Arndt, to chief executive. She joined the fund in 2019 as deputy CIO following several years with Willis Towers Watson as head of strategic advisory. She was also a senior investment strategist for the NZ Super Fund and held senior roles with NAB and Bank of New Zealand.

"Sue is a globally recognised investment leader," said Future Fund chair Peter Costello. "Markets and economies are operating in very unusual circumstances and her experience and expertise will be invaluable as we navigate this environment and seek to maximise long-term, risk-adjusted returns."

Brake has consulted on portfolio risk and asset allocation for the International Monetary Fund and was a visiting fellow for the debt capital markets program at Macquarie University.

"Sue has added enormous value to our thinking and processes since she joined us, Said CEO Raphael Arndt. "She combines deep understanding of our culture and how we work with new perspectives and ideas. She brings greater diversity to our thinking and will continue to enhance the quality of our decision-making."

Brace said, "Changes in markets and economies that were evolving gradually have accelerated rapidly over the last year. I am really looking forward to facing into the challenges and opportunities this brings with the support of such a high-calibre team and organisation."
