The Financial Services Council (FSC) and Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) have jointly appointed Jan McClelland as chair of the Life Code Compliance Committee (LCCC).

The LCCC was formed in 2017 to improve standards across the life insurance industry. The code is owned and enforced by the FCA.

McClelland comes from the academic world and is currently deputy chancellor of the University of New England. She's also the chair of the Gateway Network Governance Body and a member of the audit and risk committees for Local Government NSW and the Judicial Commission of NSW.

Commenting on McClelland's appointment, AFCA CEO David Locke said, "The LCCC has an important role in monitoring the effectiveness of the Life Code and therefore supporting good industry practice. Ms McClelland will bring deep and diverse experience to leadership of the committee."

FSC CEO Sally Loane said that she's pleased to welcome McClelland's appointment. "I am pleased to welcome Ms McClelland to the LCCC and look forward to working closely with her in ensuring the Life Insurance Code of Practice delivers for Australian consumers."

McClelland has been appointed to a three-year term as chair. She replaces Anne Brown, who held the position since January of 2018.
