After more than 11 years with Franklin Templeton as a senior portfolio manager, Jamil Barmania has joined up with a former colleague at Longreach Alternatives.

Barmania has started a new position as managing director of the diversified alternative asset manager in a role that is a JV partnership with US Lighthouse Partners.

His new boss at Longreach, Samuel Mann, was previously the regional head for Franklin Templeton Solutions.

Mann and Barmania also crossed paths at K2 Advisors a subsidiary of Franklin Templeton Investments which is one of the largest fund of hedge funds in the US.

Earlier Barmania was a senior associate at Mercer Investment Consulting for three years.

He has also worked for RBC, Capital Group, and State Street Bank and Trust Co.

We are delighted to have Jamil start with us and he has had a distinguished career in Australian Alternatives funds management, he is a highly respected alternatives funds managements executive in Australia having managed multi-billion dollar alternatives relationships in the region," said Mann

"Jamil will act as an investment specialist in conjunction with our partner Lighthouse Partners LLC and their best-in-class alternative products to grow and demonstrate broader awareness of those capabilities.

"He will equally assist in a similar capacity where required for Longreach Alternatives' product set."

For his part, Barmania said that current market dynamics make the opportunity set for alternatives extremely compelling particularly on a forward looking basis given the need for true diversification.
