Former Hunter Hall Portfolio Manager launches boutique

Yizhong Chan has confirmed to Industry Moves the launch of his new asset management business, Andaz Private Investments, effective March 2018.

As executive chair and portfolio manager of the firm, Chan said his vision is to provide institutional investors with "a solution to farm-out investment idea generation". He also hopes to service broader wholesale investors seeking "high absolute performance and expertise in global stock picking" by focusing entirely on separately managed account solutions.

The new firm will escrow half of its performance fees each financial year and commits to repaying it to investors if returns in the next financial year are negative.

Chan was most recently portfolio manager of Hunter Hall's Value Growth Trust and its Global Value LIC, a role he held for nearly 10 years before leaving in June last year around the same time Hunter Hall was acquired by Pengana Capital.

Commenting on his new venture, Chan said to Industry Moves: "The focus is on producing exceptional absolute returns, picking the best stocks, under a structure where investors retain ownership, have certainty around transparency and at a competitive price."
