Rabobank has announced the appointment of Jillian Segal to the boards of Rabobank Australia and Rabobank New Zealand, effective March 2018.

Segal previously served as commissioner, and later deputy chair, of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission and as a director of the ASX and National Australia Bank. She was also previously chair of the Australian Banking Industry Ombudsman.

Segal currently holds a number of non-executive positions, including: deputy chancellor of UNSW Australia; chair of the General Sir John Monash Foundation and the Australia- Israel Chamber of Commerce (NSW); and director of the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, the Grattan Institute and the Sydney Opera House Trust.

Commenting on her appointment, Rabobank's Australian and New Zealand chair, Sir Henry van der Heyden, said Segal's "extensive board experience across the private and public sectors, including in financial services - coupled with a career-long background in governance and law - made her an 'ideal fit' for Rabobank's Australian and New Zealand boards."

He added: "She is one of Australia's most accomplished and highly-regarded directors, and sought-after for her expertise in business, governance, banking, financial regulation and education."

Segal replaces former director, Bill Gurry, who served on Rabobank's Australian and New Zealand boards for 13 years, and as chair of Rabobank Australia for nine years, before announcing his retirement.
