First State Super has announced that Suzette Thurman, group executive risk & compliance, is departing the fund after 13 years to take on a new role as chief risk officer of Qantas Super.

In acknowledging Thurman's service, First State Super CEO Deanne Stewart said: "Over the past decade, Suzette has championed and embedded First State Super's risk aware culture and framework, ensuring we not only meet the industry's rigorous regulatory standards but that we do everything within our capacity to pursue best practice and manage risk exposure on behalf of our members."

She added: "Suzette has made a significant contribution to First State Super and she leaves with the gratitude and respect of the Board and her colleagues."

Thurman will leave the fund in mid-December for her new role and Ian Pendleton, general counsel at First State Super, will serve as interim group executive risk & compliance until a permanent replacement is announced.

In welcoming Thurman to Qantas Super, chief executive officer, Michael Clancy said: "Suzette is a highly talented and accomplished risk executive, evidenced by her twenty-five-year track record of building and implementing robust risk frameworks in the financial services sector".

Thurman, who will join the Qantas Super leadership team, will report directly to Clancy.
