A former QSuper investment performance and operations specialist has taken up a lead role at Cutter Associates, the research and consultant for asset managers and superannuation funds.

Based in the Sydney office, Rein van Rooyen has been promoted from senior director to Asia Pacific practice lead.

He retains his position as global lead for ESG.

van Rooyen brings over 15 years of experience in the investment management, banking, superannuation and insurance sectors.

He specialises in investment operations, technology, and client experience intelligence.

Before he joined Cutter two years ago, he was head of investment performance and operations at QSuper, leaving three months after Sunsuper and

QSuper merged in February 2022 and created the Australian Retirement Trust.

During his six years at QSuper, Rein spearheaded a transformational change across risk, data and performance.

He is an active member of CFA Societies Australia, serving on the Sydney board of directors and as the Brisbane president.

Van Rooyen is on the CIMA Society of Australia and is the Australian representative on the International Actuarial Association's Committee.

He is also the superannuation and investments editor for the Actuaries Magazine.

Before moving to Australia, van Rooyen spent seven years at PwC in the UK and the Netherlands, working with start-up banks, trading desks, financial reporting and treasury capabilities, risk functions, and capital optimisation programs.

Speaking on the new role at Cutter, van Rooyen said:  "The personal draw card for me is the variety of clients and engagements whilst being focussed on the end-to-end investment lifecycle. We do not try and be everything to everyone i.e. we do not consult to clients outside of the investment management world."
