Deloitte Australia has announced the appointment of Richard Deutsch as its new chief executive officer, succeeding Cindy Hook who is stepping up to become chief executive of the newly-created Deloitte Asia Pacific

Deutsch, who was formerly Deloitte Australia's managing partner, assurance and advisory, will serve as CEO for the next four years and will also join the executive team of Deloitte Asia Pacific.

Deloitte Australia chair, Tom Imbesi, said of his appointment: "Richard is one of the most experienced executives in Australian professional services today with a track record of success and a great vision for the future."

He added: "In a firm with outstanding candidates, choosing Richard was no easy decision. It was his passion for driving our culture of collaboration and innovation, and his strategy for the coming years, that stood out and the Board agreed he was the right person to guide Deloitte Australia into the future."

Deutsche said that he was "humbled" by the board's decision and that his goal in the role is "to make Deloitte the undisputed leader in the market place."

Deutsch joined Deloitte in 2015 from PwC where he held senior leadership roles for more than 10 years in audit, consulting and market strategy.

He leads Deloitte's program for non-executive directors and is also chair of OzHarvest and a board member of Adara, a charity supporting children, their mothers and communities in Nepal and Uganda.
