Longtime Deutsche Bank Australia managing director and head of investment banking, Alex Cartel, has joined Citi in a similar capacity.

"Alex is a proven leader and one of Australia's most experienced and trusted M&A and ECM advisers," said Tony Osmond, head of Citi's banking, capital markets, and advisory functions. "We are experiencing a strong increase in fundraising activity and expect this to grow further to include increased M&A activity in the second half and beyond.

"The addition of Alex to our banking, capital markets and advisory leadership team will ensure we have the capability in place to deliver for our clients," said Osmond.

Cartel has spent more than 20 years with Deutsche Bank, previously serving as a solicitor focusing on corporate and M&A activities with Allens Linklaters.

Citi also appointed Rob Jahrling and Hamish Whitehead as co-heads of Citi Australia and New Zealand's equity capital markets.
