Chief Strategy & Customer Officer appointed at MetLife Australia

MetLife Australia has appointed Gerard McDermott as chief strategy & customer officer, reporting to acting chief executive officer, Vince Watt.

In his new role, McDermott will be responsible for leading MetLife Australia's strategy, project management office, customer, digital, marketing, and data functions.

McDermott was most recently group executive, workers compensation at Employers Mutual Limited (EML), responsible for the firm's workers compensation business line nationally. Previously, he was head of general insurance at BT Financial Group and, before this, was executive general manager for personal insurance distribution at Suncorp.

Commenting on his appointment at MetLife Australia, Watt said: "We're delighted to welcome Gerard...His extensive track record driving customer-led business transformations will enable him to make a major contribution to our efforts to place our customers' needs at the heart of everything we do."
