The Australian Securities Exchange, ASX, has announced the appointment of Dan Chesterman as chief information officer (CIO), effective September 2017.

He will report to ASX's chief operating officer, Tim Hogben, and will be a member of ASX's senior group executive.

Chesterman is currently chief information officer for CBA's CommSec and Private Bank, and has been with CBA since 2007. Prior to CBA, he spent 11 years as a management consultant, with firms including Accenture and Whittman Hart.

Commenting on his appointment, Hogben said: "Given his breadth of experience, Dan is a perfect fit for ASX's business. His extensive domestic and international financial services experience and familiarity with technology infrastructures - from a platform, regulatory and operational perspective - are combined with a unique mix of business and leadership skills. He has a proven track record in building alignment and engagement, project delivery across various portfolios, and prioritising complex and competing decisions. We look forward to Dan joining us in September."

Chesterman added: "I am excited to be joining the ASX Group...the ASX is an iconic organisation and is in the midst of a series of substantial and transformative investments in technology. I look forward to coming on board and contributing to the ongoing transformation."

He will replace Tim Thurman, who left the role in March 2017, after five years, to return to Canada.
