Stephen Walters has left his position as chief economist at J.P. Morgan after 14 years to take on the newly-created role of chief economist at the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD).
Walters has more than two decades experience as an economist in both Australia and the UK.
Commenting on his new role, Walters said: "Many economic issues have a direct impact on boardroom decisions, including Australia's fiscal position and need for national reforms to address it. The impact of China's rapid transformation and globalisation generally are also of paramount importance."
He added: "It is imperative that the AICD participate in conversations about such issues and I look forward to speaking on its behalf."
