REST Super has confirmed that its chief executive officer, Damian Hill, will be stepping down from the role, effective January 2018.

Hill joined REST Super in 1999 as administration manager and has been CEO of the $45 billion fund since 2006.

He has 20 years' experience in life insurance and superannuation and is currently a director on the ASFA board, a role he has held since 2013. He is also chair of Superfriend, a mental health foundation established by industry funds.

Commenting on his departure from REST, chair, Ken Marshman, said: "Damian has led REST through several significant periods of industry change and transformation during his tenure as CEO. He leaves REST in a very strong position for the future, and we sincerely thank him for his contribution and leadership. In typical fashion, he has provided the Fund with ample notice in order to ensure a seamless transition."

Hill added: "It has been my great privilege to work with an exceptionally dedicated and skilled team whose enthusiasm and hard work have helped propel REST from $2 billion AUM to now close to $45 billion AUM. I am proud of what we have accomplished on behalf of our members and staff. I believe now is an appropriate time for me to move to the next stage of my career. After 19 years at REST, more than 11 of them as CEO, I am excited about the prospect of seeking a new management challenge."
