BT Financial Group (BTFG) has confirmed to Industry Moves that Mark Spiers, general manager, advice, will step down from his role at the end of the year.

Spiers has more than 30 years' experience in the financial planning industry and first joined BTFG in 2004. Prior to this, he held a number of senior executive positions in the financial services industry, including CEO of RetireInvest. He has also served as deputy chair of the Financial Planning Association and was a member of the Legislation and Regulation Committee of the Financial Planning Association for eight years. He is currently a director of FINSIA.

Commenting on his departure from the role, a BTFG spokesperson said to Industry Moves: "After over nine years as General Manager, Advice and 13 years at BT, Mark Spiers has made the decision to step down from his role and focus on some of his other interests. During this time Mark has been a champion for the evolution of advice and an active participant behind the transformation of the advice industry to a profession."

"Mark will continue in the role until the end of the year and will stay on in an advisory capacity throughout 2018, and to ensure continuity of the business. We're pleased to retain his strong industry knowledge and expertise, having spent many years in the advice industry."
