Ethical fund manager, UCA Funds Management, has appointed Fiona Pearse to its board of directors, bringing the board's female representation to 50 per cent.

Pearse has financial executive experience gained from almost two decades at BHP Billiton and BlueScope Steel. She has also served in a number of non-executive roles, including as non-executive director of City West Water. Currently, she is a non-executive director with Scotch College and World Vision Australia.

In welcoming Pearse, UCA chair, Dr David Cousins, said: "Fiona's significant board, governance, investment and financial experience will enhance the skillset of the board. In particular, her direct experience of the not-for-profit sector will be valuable as the organisation continues its push into this area."

Pearse's appointment follows UCA Funds Management's strong gender diversity campaign over the last year.

Commenting on the issue, non-executive director, Gayle Wilson, said: "Both Australian and international studies have repeatedly confirmed the positive impact of Board gender diversity, not only on the financials but also the internal culture of an organisation."

She added: "To this end, UCA Funds Management is committed to supporting gender diversity, both within our organisation and among the companies in which we invest."
