Date: January 2022
Position: Chief Compliance Officer

ASX chief compliance officer Kevin Lewis will retire in mid-2022.

Lewis has been the compliance chief since joining the organisation in 2010. He will be taking up a different, unspecified role with the organisation until he retires.

Janine Ryan, currently the ASX deputy general counsel, has been named the new chief compliance officer.

ASX Corporate Governance Council chair Elizabeth Johnstone said, "On behalf of the Council, I wish to acknowledge the enormous contribution Kevin has made to Council and to corporate governance standards in Australia in his decade as the ASX representative on the Council."

Lewis was a major contributor to the 3rd and 4th editions of the Council's Corporate Governance Principles and Recommendations and managed national roadshows for both editions.

"Over and above the work he has done on the Council, Kevin has strengthened Australia's continuous disclosure regime through a major rewrite of ASX Listing Rules Guidance Note 8; introduced major reforms to the Listing Rules; substantially improved the quantity and quality of ASX guidance to listed entities; and, most recently, initiated and implemented ASX's temporary emergency capital raising relief to support listed entities through the COVID-19 pandemic", said Ryan.

Lewis joined the ASX from the law firm of Chang Pistilli & Simmons and held executive general management roles with CBA. He also held legal counsel roles with a variety of firms including Goldman Sachs and Bankers Trust Limited. He was a partner with Herbert Smith Freehills for nearly 17 years.
