ANZ has announced that David Plank will join the team as head of Australian economics, effective February 2017.

In this role, he will be responsible for leading the Australian economics team, as well as providing macroeconomic analysis and insight on the Australian economy.

Plank joins ANZ from Deutsche Bank, where he held the positions of head of fixed income and credit research Asia Pacific and head of macro research and strategy Australia & New Zealand.

Prior to this he worked for Bankers Trust in a number of economist and strategy roles before it merged with Deutsche Bank in 1999.

Commenting on his appointment, ANZ chief economist, Richard Yetsenga, said: "David's extensive experience, quality of analysis and strong reputation makes him the ideal person to lead our Australian Economics team. He is a well-respected economist, his analysis will be highly valued by our clients and he will integrate well with our market strategy offerings."

Plank succeeds Felicity Emmett who will continue as senior economist after deciding to step down from the role earlier this year.
