Alternatives investment manager names MD

Investment manager, Longreach Alternatives, has confirmed to Industry Moves the appointment of Sam Edwards as managing director, effective October 2017.

In this role, Edwards will report to CEO Samuel Mann and be responsible for strategic growth initiatives to build out the Longreach platform and asset management capability.

Edwards has over 15 years' global banking, global markets and alternative asset management experience. For the last nine years he has been based in Hong Kong, most recently as the regional head (Asia Pac) of alternative investments, mutual funds and discretionary wealth management with HSBC Private Bank. In this role, he was responsible for all internal and third-party investment management solutions, platforms and programs.

Prior to this he spent nearly seven years as a portfolio manager with Evolution Capital Management.

Commenting on his appointment at Longreach, Edwards said: "In my previous role and looking through a global lens, I observed very clearly that local Australian investors, particularly within the private wealth segment, had a distinct lack of access to both local and international best of breed alternative asset management solutions. This is especially relevant in comparison to their international counterparts.

He added: "The opportunity to afford Australian investors access to high quality, suitable and sustainable alternative investments is the key focus of Longreach and the opportunity to join a distinguished group of industry leaders is something I am truly excited about."
