The Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees (AIST) has announced that its president, David Smith, will step down from the role following the completion of his two year term, effective April 2018.

Smith, who will continue as a director on the AIST board, will be succeeded as president by fellow AIST director, Catherine Bolger.

Smith first joined the AIST board in 2013. He has been involved in the superannuation industry as a fund director since 2007, including roles as chair and director of Energy Super and a board member of Australian Discount Shopping Services and Union Shopper. He currently sits on the board of HESTA and is the national secretary for the Australian Services Union.

Commenting on his service as president, AIST CEO, Eva Scheerlinck, said: "David provided invaluable strategic advice to AIST during his time as President and he has overseen many significant developments including the roll out of AIST's new Governance Code, the merger of AIST and Industry Funds Forum and the development of the industrywide insurance code."
