The Actuaries Institute has announced the appointment of Elayne Grace as its new chief executive officer, effectively immediately.

Grace has served as deputy CEO and head of public policy at the Institute since 2013. She replaces David Bell who resigned in December 2017.

She has more than 20 years' international experience with consulting firms and major insurers. She is a fellow of the Actuaries Institute and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Commenting on her appointment, Institute president, John Evans, said: "Elayne has extensive experience in public policy and has been instrumental in raising the Institute's profile with the development of strategic papers which go to the heart of major economic and social themes that affect the lives of all Australians."

"She is passionate about leveraging opportunities for the Institute and its members in key areas that benefit from the astute thinking provided by the profession. In particular, she is committed to further developing the Institute's expertise and expansion in sectors such as data analytics, the economic impact of climate change and risk management."

Grace added: "This is a very exciting opportunity for me and I am confident that the energy, leadership and strategic ability I bring to the role will not only help build our brand but also reveal to our growing membership base the new opportunities available to them in Australia and overseas."
