A new direction for Industry Moves - A letter from the editor

A new direction for Industry Moves

It's been just over a week since we announced the acquisition Industry Moves, and I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and give you a sense of where we're going in the coming months.

Justin Cleveland LinkedinI'm Justin Cleveland, the new managing editor of Industry Moves. The easiest way to explain the diversity of my background is to say that I like to meet new people and learn new things. I've worked in media and journalism covering a wide variety of beats including government and politics. I ran a not-for-profit industry advocacy organisation for the fantasy sports industry. I hosted B2B webinars at Telstra. Most recently, I was in the marketing department at Australian Catholic Superannuation, an industry fund whose membership base is primary Catholic school teachers.

I've been brought on by Rainmaker to continue the fantastic work begun by Debbie, Katrina and the entire team who started Industry Moves in 2014. They built Industry Moves into a fantastic database of the people and products who make up the diverse world of financial services in Australia. We're going to build on the wonderful foundations they created.

While we say goodbye to Debbie and Katrina, Penny Pryor will continue producing deep-dives into the products being introduced across the industry. The research insights produced by Rainmaker will help us dig deeper and cover a wider array of products that are launched into the marketplace.

One of my favourite parts of Industry Moves is the celebration of unsung heroes. Having been involved in several superannuation product launches, I know that the success or failure depends largely on the people who are involved. While those contributions are lauded internally, those people don't always get the recognition they deserve. These are the kind of stories I'm excited to tell.

Of course, we're going to continue to cover the moves in the industry - it's in our name, after all. More than just reporting on gossip, I want to understand why people are making a move and what they hope to accomplish in the future.

What can you expect in the future?

We're doing some tinkering to update the look and feel of Industry Moves, you may notice some small changes over the coming months. Longer-term, we're going to look at different ways to provide you with insights. Nothing is off the table, which is both exciting and, being honest, a little intimidating.

None of what we do is possible without you. If you've accepted a new role or are thinking about making a move, letting us know is a great way to position yourself for future success. When your organisation makes a new hire, reporting that is a great way to bring fresh focus and conversations to your business, products, and services.

I'd love to connect with you on LinkedIn!
