What are you most looking forward to in your new role?

Delivering consistent risk adjusted returns for our clients and leading the investment team. I am very familiar with the Contango AM business as it started 16 years ago from the old HSBC AM team where I previously worked for 10 years. So it is like putting the old band back together.

How have your previous roles prepared you for this role?

My previous roles as chief investment officer have given me a good consistent track record in managing the investment process and to lead investment teams to deliver enhanced risk adjusted returns for our clients. It is always about delivering expected returns for the client without employing excess volatility and clearly communicating this process to them.

What do you think will be your biggest challenge in the first 12 months?

Like all fund managers we aim to grow our funds under management over time. The next 12 months will be no different. I am fortunate that Contango AM have a good long standing track record, very experienced investment specialists and our various portfolios are well rated.

What is one of the best pieces of advice you've ever been given?

I will give two. Enjoy what you do and investing is simple but not easy.

Would you consider yourself an introvert or an extrovert?

A combination of both over my 25 year career. Leading an investment team requires a balance of both because of the wide variance of personalities that make up a successful investment team.

What was your very first job?

Growing up in the country we were all working from a very early age. But it was just part of your lifestyle. Moving to the city to study was effectively a rest from many hours of manual labour.

Is there a particular charity or cause that you support?

Everybody in our household contributes and has a say. It is important for kids to be involved from an early age. We rotate donations every year to reflect the many different and important charities.
