Former CBA general manager Derek Berry has joined Willis Towers Watson as their first director of reward, helping the company's human capital and benefits business better understand board, executive, and non-exec remuneration strategies.

Adam Hall heads up the talent and rewards team in Australia. He says Berry is a valuable addition to the WTW team: "Remuneration strategies, structures and processes are under intense scrutiny from regulators, shareholders and the community. Derek's depth and breadth of experience, particularly in financial services, will be of immense value to clients across WTW looking to address the current questions around remuneration and the myriad of requirements for listed companies."

Berry has significant experience as a remuneration specialist. He was the GM of performance and reward for Commonwealth Bank, and has experience at Challenge and Downer EDI.

While payments may seem simple, Berry says it's actually a lot tougher than it seems: "It may appear simple, until you realise the breadth of views held by academics, employees, management and affected stakeholders".

Berry will be based out of Willis Towers Watson's Sydney office.
