PAULINE VAMOS
Governance Institute of Australia - Chair
APPOINTMENT
GOVERNANCE INSTITUTE OF AUSTRALIA
Date: July 2021
Position: Chair

Former ASFA chief Pauline Vamos has been appointed chair of the Governance Institute of Australia.

Vamos comes from a legal background, holding regulatory positions with ASIC as well as Phillips Fox, Hills District Insurance Brokers, and City Mutual. Vamos has moved into directing in 2015, sitting on the board of the Banking and Finance Oath and chairing the Investment Management Consultants Association. She's also held seats with ASX-listed Decimal Software, Mercer Superannuation Trust, and Moneytech. Vamos joined the board of Chief Executive Women late last year.

Independent Governance Review committee chair John Mazengarb welcomed Vamos. "Pauline is a high-calibre, well-known leader and her appointment is a key part of the Governance Institute's modernisation as we confirm ourselves as the leading national governance body, both now and into the future.

"This is an exciting time for us as we place a firm focus on innovation, modernisation, and ensuring we continue to lead governance and risk management practice."

Vamos said she looks forward to working with the Governance Institute board, staff, and members. "We will be even more member-focused, continue to enhance our education offerings and be an even stronger voice on broader governance issues.

"As governance professionals, we play a key role in assisting society to navigate growing complexity and increasing challenges. Climate change risk, real-time technological change, cyber risk, and the changing notion of consumers are just some of the issues that will require an evolution of our boards, our company secretaries and risk professionals.

"I am excited to be part of these discussions as Chair of the Board and President of Governance Institute."
