Super investment specialist moves to management firm

Economist and portfolio manager Alex Cathcart has left the superannuation space after several years.

Cathcart was most recently head of portfolio integration with Cbus where he ensured that insights from the various arms of the fund's investment team would be considered in the portfolio design. Before Cbus, Cathcart did similar work with QSuper.

In comments to Industry Moves, Cathcart says he'll be doing similar work with Drummond. "I was attracted to being part of a rapidly growing business at a relatively early stage, benefiting from financial advisers outsourcing their investment solution via managed accounts," he said.

"I had also been in the super fund space for a long time and something more commercial and nimble appealed and there are very few multi-asset boutiques in Australia."

Drummond's size and focus on financial intermediaries and family offices allows them to "take positions in good managers with limited capacity and participate in small size deals and strategies that move the needle."

Outside of investing, Cathcart also has experience as a senior economist at the Queensland Treasury.
