Industry superannuation fund Rest has appointed a new chief investment officer.

Andrew Lill will return to Australia from the US where he has spent the last two years as Morningstar's chief investment officer for the Americas mutual fund.

Lill previously spent nearly five years as the chief investment officer for Morningstar Asia Pacific, was the head of investment specialists and investment solutions at AMP Capital, and the director of investment strategy at Russell Investments.

"Andrew's experience and expertise will be a valued addition to Rest," said chief executive officer Vicki Doyle. "We are well placed to pursue attractively priced assets in investment markets on behalf of our members as a result of our active management approach."

This is the first chief investment officer for the whole of Rest's operations, said Doyle. "[It is] the culmination of more than 12 months' work to refine our investment structure and governance and position the fund for further growth."

George Zielinski, who has been the interim CIO, will retire in August.

Lill will start his role on 17 August.
