APPOINTMENT
PENGANA CAPITAL LIMITED
Date: July 2021
Position: Portfolio Manager, High Conviction Equities Fund

Pengana has appointed Jeremy Bendeich to its investment team as a portfolio manager. He'll work alongside James Macdonald on the High Conviction Equities Fund.

The fund, which is positioned as ethically screened, holds no more than 20 companies at a given time. Since its inception in 2014, it has returned 32.8%.

Pengana CEO Russel Pillemer said Bendeich's hire is a reflection of the fund's growth prospects. "Jeremy has two decades of experience in the wealth management industry. He co-founded, and was CIO, at Avoca Investment Management for nine years and was a portfolio manager of the UBS Australian Small Companies Fund, which was awarded the Australian Fund Manager's Best Small Cap Fund Manager of the Year in 2009," he said.

Before joining UBS, Bendeich spent several years as an analyst with Colonial First State covering small caps as well as telcos, utilities, and infrastructure and property trusts.

McDonald also welcomed Bendeich to the organisation. "Jeremy has 26 years of investing experience, looking predominantly at small and emerging companies, across all market cycles. Whilst this has been largely in an Australian context, we believe that Jeremy's skills as an investor are more relevant than a particular background in international investing, especially given the breadth of the market with 10,000 companies in our investable universe.

"Jeremy has looked at thousands of businesses over the years and numerous business models. We believe his knowledge of those models aligns strongly with the Fund's investment process and will be hugely value-additive to our investors."
