Oaktree MD joins Blue Sky board

Blue Sky Alternative Investments (Blue Sky) has appointed Byron Beath, managing director of Oaktree Capital, as a director of its board, effective 7 December 2018.

The appointment follows a shareholder vote at Blue Sky's AGM, which will permit Oaktree Capital to convert its loan to an interest in Blue Sky, becoming a new strategic stakeholder, with Beath to represent Oaktree on the Blue Sky board.

Commenting on Beath's appointment, Blue Sky said in a statement to the ASX: "Byron offers market-leading expertise in asset management around real assets and infrastructure, and his addition will enable Blue Sky to further tap into Oaktree's networks as a global leader in private market asset management."

Beath has been managing director of Oaktree since 2016 and previously spent 15 years with Macquarie Bank, where he was responsible for assessing investments in private equity and senior, subordinated and mezzanine debt.

Blue Sky has also announced the appointment of former Hastings chief executive, Andrew Day, as the firm's new chair.
